About the Item

Heavy gauge sterling silver cuff by Navajo silversmith Rick Martinez. The 1 1/2” cuff has a 5/8” x 1” rectangular turquoise stone set in a silver overlay setting. Gap: 1-1/8” Total inside circumference: 6-1/2” King’s Manassa turquoise is known for its blue-green to green color with a golden or brown, non-webbed matrix. The golden matrix comes from the host rock, rhyolite. The King’s Manassa turquoise mine, or more accurately the "King Turquoise Mine", is located in Manassa, Conejos County Colorado. The site was originally mined by ancestral pueblo people and was rediscovered in the 1890’s by gold prospector I.P.King, and the King family has operated it ever since. It was originally called the Lick Skillet Mine. The mine is not currently active, so Manassa turquoise is quite rare on today's market. About the Artist Navajo artist Rick Martinez is an extremely talented silversmith that has practiced his art on the New Mexico Reservation for over 20 years. He is a full-time silversmith and enjoys producing unique and one of a kind pieces. He uses fine stones and often "antiques" his pieces to make them look older than they are. He employs a variety of techniques such as several sizes of drops, twist wire, and stamped cutouts. Rick continues to embrace his culture and has been very inspiring to many young Native American silversmiths.
