Antique Gold Opal and Diamond Bracelet Victorian 19th Century Ladies 21K Heavy

About the Item

A superb antique 19th century gold opal and diamond bracelet, circa 1880. This large and magnificent bracelet was made in either France or England and it weighs an impressive 27 grams of 21K gold. Despite its significant age, it has survived in excellent condition. The bracelet boasts a particularly shiny and untarnished surface due to its particularly high gold fineness which tarnishes at a much slower rate. The quatrefoil cluster-shaped head is set with an opal cabochon, surrounded by an old mine cut diamond in each of the cardinal directions. The entire exterior of the bracelet is intricately engraved with scrollwork and foliate motifs. The diamonds have a fantastic bright white colour with excellent clarity and large open culets, allowing them to sparkle marvellously. The gemstones are all tightly set and the clasp functions securely. Both the diamonds and opal are in open-backed settings which enables easy cleaning! The bracelet measures 16.5cm in length. Each diamond weighs approximately 0.3ct. (1.2 ctw). The opal cabochon weighs 1ct. The quatrefoil head measures 3cm by 2cm and protrudes outwards 1cm. The bracelet design is particularly scarce and it is an exquisite and very wearable example of Victorian craftsmanship! A truly stunning jewel from a bygone era which has survived in excellent condition despite all odds…

Royal 19th Century Siam Diamond and Ruby Ring
Located in London, GB
A rare 19th century princely gold cluster ring made in Siam (Thailand), circa 1860.This gorgeous ruby and diamond ring was intricately crafted in high-karat gold, by the goldsmiths of the royal Siam court in the 19th century. It is a fine example of the lavish adornment worn by participants in royal and aristocratic life-cycle ceremonies in the courts of Bangkok. Aside from ceremonial use, they were also occasionally given as gifts to important visitors or other aristocratic families. There was a huge expansion in the number of royals in 19th century Siam which stemmed from Kings Mongkut (Rama IV) and Chulalongkorn (Rama V) being highly polygamous. They had a joint total of 124 wives and 159 royal children, each requiring their own ceremonial regalia and princely jewels. As a result, Bangkok became home to some incredibly skilled goldsmiths in this period and the sheer number of jewellery required has meant that today princely jewels like this one can very occasionally be found in the open market, particularly in Europe following the relocation of the Thai royal family to Switzerland and France in the 1930’s and 1940’s. The ring features a row of cabochon rubies horizontally aligned, surrounded by a sea of rose cut diamonds. All of the stones are in rubover settings within a web of hexagonal honeycomb frames. The band is decorated with pierced and deeply chased scrollwork motifs, typical of Siam jewellery...
