About the Item
This sterling silver link bracelet contains oval medallions with the profile of a handsome helmeted warrior, a popular motif in 1880-1890’s flatware that made its way into jewelry design as well. The oval medallions are textured behind the warrior to set off the image and topped with ball finials. The bracelet has a continuous pattern—the maker took the time to incorporate the clasp into one of the medallions for a seamless pattern.
Circa the Victorian era, this bracelet is part of the resurgence of neoclassicism that took place during the 1860’s and 1870’s in American silver, and was prevalent in other art forms including painting and architecture. Classical images of Greek gods, goddesses, and warriors were portrayed on medallions to resemble coins and currency. Every American silver company had their own medallion pattern that would be used to embellish their silver flatware and hollowware, as well as jewelry items.
The bracelet contains six medallions that each measure 3/4” x 1 1/4”. The bracelet measures 7 1/8”. It weighs 35 grams. Marked as sterling silver.

View AllVictorian 14K Gold Cannetille Etruscan Revival Bracelet
Located in Venice, CA
A beautiful 14k yellow gold bracelet from the Etruscan Revival period, circa 1880. The bracelet is exquisitely hand-made and is a fine example of cannetille gold work, which is similar to filigree work with fine gold wires that curl around thinly hammered sheets. Cannetille gold work was inspired by embroidery and nature. The repeating curling designs on each segment of the bracelet are harmonious and elegant. The diamond shape of the segment has an oval decoration, framed with gold wirework, and inside this, there is a symmetrical curling design.
Each segment measures one inch and the bracelet, made up of six segments, is approximately seven inches. Each segment is hollow, and connected through thick gold links decorated with gold beads. The bracelet feels great when worn, and has a safety chain so that it doesn't fall off. The bracelet weighs a total of 18 grams and is in perfect condition. This bracelet displays the aesthetic tastes of an era of nostalgia and romance.
Etruscan Revival jewelry has a rich and interesting history. In the early 1800s there was a large excavation of Etruscan tombs outside of Rome. Within these tombs were pieces of original Etruscan jewelry. The Etruscans were master artisans, they created breathtaking pieces of jewelry through their use of gold wirework and granulation, colored gemstones and glass. The news of the excavation of these tombs, and the treasures contained inside them, spread throughout Europe. Etruscan style jewelry...
