They are 32mm long, the enamel portion is 20mm by 17mm. They are hallmarked S.G.M. Sterling and the screwback posts marked 835. They weigh 7.7 grams. Stanley George Morris Born 30 November 1919 Died 31 October 2010 Silversmith. Born in Handsworth, Birmingham. He was the son of the silversmith, James Morris who worked as an assistant to Georgie Gaskin between 1901-10. Stanley studied at the Vittoria Street School for Jewellers and Silversmiths and the Central School of Art under Bernard Cuzner. During the 1930s he was awarded the Messenger Prize, John Henry Chamberlain Silver medal prize, and two Goldsmiths Company Scholarships. Morris received early commissions from Bernard Cuzner, Cyrial Shiner, and for Birmingham Assay Office. Amongst these works were the Olympic Torch for the Goldsmiths Company to Bernard Cuzner’s design, which won them an honorary mention in the Olympic Arts Competition of the Olympiad 1948 and a Fluted Salt executed to Cyril Shiner’s design in 1951, commissioned by the Salters Company to mark the Festival of Britain. Over a lengthy career Morris executed many of his own designs for private, ceremonial and ecclesiastical silverware. Examples of his work were included in 'Birmingham Gold and Silver 1773-1973: an Exhibition celebrating the Bicentenary of the Assay Office', 28 July - 16 September 1973, Birmingham Art Gallery. These pieces included: Crozier 1938 (aged 17 unmarked) (which is now exhibited in Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery); Wafer Box Octagonal 1939 (unmarked); Coffee Pot with ivory 1939 (makers mark); and Covered Bowl marked 1948 (lent by the Goldsmiths Company); and Wine Flagon 1951 (lent by Wrekin College).
