Antique Shell Cameo Brooch, late 1800s
About the Item
This fabulous carved Victorian brooch was made around the late 1800s. It depicts a beautiful portrait in the form of ancient Greek and Roman sculptures. The execution of the shell is amazing, and the relief helps to add details and dimension to the design. The frame is 800 silver (on the reverse side of the cameo, there is a stamp "800").
This is a lovely cameo that will be admired for years to come! It is in excellent vintage condition. A gorgeous vintage cameo brooch with a nice size, measuring approximately 44.5 mm x 34.5 mm. This cameo can also be worn as a pendant. The frame is decorated with marcasites. This is typical for frames from the Art Deco period. The cameo was most likely framed somewhat later than when it was made. There are traces of a signature on the back of the cameo, but unfortunately, we could not read it.
