Art Nouveau Enamel Wreath Brooch
About the Item
An Art Nouveau enamel wreath brooch, consisting of seven enamelled mulberry tree leaves, with seed pearls set in-between, all mounted in yellow gold, tested as 18ct gold with 14ct gold pin, circa 1900, probably American, measuring approximately 3.3cm in diameter, gross weight 5.2 grams.
An autumnal wreath brooch which features a wonderfully detailed mulberry leaves separated by shimmering seed pearls. The style of Art Nouveau, meaning ‘new art’ began in the 1890s in Europe. At the 1900 Paris Exposition Universalle, a large exhibit of Art Nouveau jewellery and homewares was shown to the public. The style is characterized by sinuous forms inspired by nature. This piece was potentially made in the United States in around 1900 and exemplifies Art Nouveau style at its finest. It comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.
This antique brooch is in very good condition for its age. Unmarked, tested as 18ct gold with 14ct gold pin.
