Diamond Enamel Soroptimist International Association Brooch Woman's Movement

About the Item

This is a wonderful antique Brooch and Pin from the Soroptomist International Society with an image of a woman with outstretched arms in front of a blazing sun. The brooch is a piece of early history from the Women's Movement! The larger pin is connected to a small pin in the form of a gavel hammer set with a diamond. The jewels are 10 karat gold and blue enamel. This is an early piece dating to the founding of the Soroptomist Association. The Soroptomist Association is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment. Soroptimist was formed in 1921 in Oakland, California, at a time when women were not permitted to join service organizations. Our name, loosely translated from the Latin, means best for women. Today, we have about 30,000 members and supporters in countries across North America, Latin America and the Pacific Rim. Beautiful Art Deco gold work defines this special piece. The brooch is 3/4 inch (20 mm) in diameter. The gavel pin is 10mm long. The brooches weigh 3.25 grams.
