About the Item
A Victorian enamel and diamond-set duck brooch, the brooch in the form of a swimming mallard duck with an enamelled head and wings and a rose-cut diamond-set body, the diamonds estimate to weigh 1 carat in total, all set in silver to a gold mount with a brooch pin fitting and safety chain, circa 1880, measuring approximately 2.6 x 1.5cm, gross weight 5 grams.
This antique brooch is in very good condition for its age. Unmarked, tested as 18ct gold and silver with 9ct gold pin
This charming Victorian duck brooch comes from the extensive antique brooch collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. This piece features a wonderfully detailed mallard duck, with a multicolour enamel head in blue, green, and orange enamel with a fine yellow gold beak. The body of the duck is set with scintillating diamonds. This sweet piece follows in the Victorian tradition of hunting jewellery and would add a touch of Victorian whimsy to the lapel of a tweed blazer.
