About the Item

A Scottish Horseshoe brooch in sterling with two sculpted three dimensional deer on top of a deer leg riding crop, is an example of the hunting jewelry in the Victorian era. While the Victorians were nature oriented at this time that did not keep the aristocracy, royalty and land owners from riding to the hunt regularly. They would take off with their hounds, as you have seen in paintings, and hope to bring back a trophy or two. Personally I hope the deer got away. The brooch was made c. 1860 in Scotland. It is in perfect condition and beautifully engraved in repose, or raised engraving. The back pin is curved to make insertion into fabric easy. Size 1 3/8 in high. 2 in wide Weight 8.9 grams
