About the Item
This lovely vintage silver fish brooch is set with marcasite and paste stones. The silver rectangle shaped brooch is set with marcasite and three coral-like beads. The eyes of the fish are set with green paste stones. The silver surface has a decor of mille-grain throughout the brooch. It has a great design with two lovely fish and three round red beads which resembles coral. The brooch sparkles beautifully in daylight.
Marcasite jewelry has been made since the time of the Ancient Greeks. It was particularly popular in the eighteenth century, the Victorian era and with Art Nouveau and Art Deco jewelry designers. Marcasite was used because it gave the impression of rose cut diamonds in artificial- and daylight with its sparkling look.
The brooch is in good condition.
The brooch will be gift-wrapped in a black and gold jewelry box.
