A fine and impressive vintage French 2.71 carat chrysoprase, 0.16 carat diamond and 0.07 carat ruby, 18 karat yellow gold bird brooch; part of our diverse gemstone jewellery collections.
This fine and impressive gemstone brooch has been crafted in 18k yellow and white gold.
This vintage brooch has been modelled in the form of two stylised birds perched on a closed umbrella.
The body of each bird is ornamented with an oval cabochon cut chrysoprase.
The yellow gold simplified wirework style heads incorporate eyes represented by claw set round faceted rubies, with a combined carat weight of 0.07cts.
The heads are further embellished with scalloped white gold wirework designs accented with six claw set eight-cut diamonds.
Each bird is embellished with tapering wings and tails, accented with concertina detailing.
The tapering baluster style umbrella features white gold accents to the curved handle and tip.
The 1960s brooch secures to the reverse with a hinged pin and sheath style fastening.
The reverse of the setting is hallmarked with the French maker's mark and 18k gold mark (eagle's head).
This French gemstone brooch is supplied with an IDGL diamond and gemstone grading report card.

William Spratling, (born Sept. 22, 1900, Sonyea, N.Y., U.S.A”died Aug. 8, 1967, near Taxco, Mex.), American designer and architect, who spent more than 30 years in Mexico developing and promoting the silvercraft that made the city of Taxco famous.A graduate of the New York Fine Arts Institute and Auburn University, in Alabama (where he studied architecture), Spratling taught art and architecture at Tulane University, New Orleans, La., for eight years before going to Mexico in 1927. For two years he taught at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City (1927â€â€œ29) and then settled in Taxco, an old silver town (founded in 1528) that had long been in decay. He befriended silver artisans from all over Mexico and began the design of silver jewelry, artwork, tableware, and tea sets, opening his first taller, or workshop, on the Calle Las Delicias in 1933.
