WILLIAM KERR & CO. 1900 Art Nouveau Brooch In Repousse .925 Sterling Silver

About the Item

An art-nouveau brooch designed by William Kerr & Co. This is a fantastic art nouveau brooch, created in America by the William Kerr & Co. back in the 1900. The brooch is very beautiful and was masterfully crafted in repousse .925/.999 sterling silver with satin frosted finish. The design depicts the portrait of a women in high relief with sinuous curves. It is fitted at the reverse with a hinged horizontal pin bar, and a hook to wear as a brooch. William Kerr & Co. They was manufacturer of jewelry, flatware and hollowware. Established in Newark, New Jersey in 1855, they are listed in the 1915 Edition of the Trademarks of the Jewelry and Kindred Trades as having been located at 144 Orange St. Kerr's hallmark was a fasces - a single-bit axe with rods bound with straps. They used this trademark of a medieval axe from 1855 until 1892. Other hallmarks include a hammer, and three "X" marks. William B. Kerr & Co. Newark, New Jersey Ca. 1880s - 1927 Well regarded for Art Nouveau jewelry, hollowware and vanity items. Absorbed into Gorham in 1927. Kerr was known for elaborate and unique Art Nouveau pieces, most especially the American Beauty series, as well as many different patterns of flatware and hollowware for children featuring nursery rhymes and images. Weight: 22.95 Grams, (14.75 Dwt). Measurements: 66 mm by 49 mm BY 13 mm (2.60 x 1.93 x 0.52 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark of a fasces associated to William Kerr & Co. and the mark for the assay of the silver as follow: "STERLING". Collateral: This brooch is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Condition: The overall condition of this William Kerr & Co. brooch is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the silver. All parts are secured in their settings. This piece has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
