Antique Petrified Wood and 14K Gold Dangle Earrings
About the Item
A pair of antique gold dangle earrings made with petrified wood. These drop-shaped papules are set in 14 karat gold caps and dangling under a Tudor rose flower. It is a beautiful balance between nature - the warm glow of the gold and the organic material of the petrified wood. The earrings are worn with an ear wire. This wire has an additional safety closure that hooks onto the ear wire and can be opened and closed.
Petrified wood is very old, it is fossil wood, in which all organic materials have been replaced by minerals while retaining the structure of the wood. The process of petrification happens underground, when a tree becomes engulfed in sediment, and can take millions of years. The smallest details can be immortalized. Petrified growth rings - as seen in these earrings - and various tissues can be seen and traced down to a microscopic level.
The earrings are in very good condition and measure 63 millimeters in length and have a nice weight of 5.9 grams.

An antique 19th century pair of yellow gold earrings set with rose cut diamonds crafted in a silver setting. These antique Dutch dangle earrings have a beautiful design with leaves and a flower with a large diamond in the middle - while the stem and leaves feature smaller diamonds.
