ART-DECO 1930 Butterscotch Bakelite Dangle Earrings With Polka Dots Patterns
About the Item
Pair of dangle earrings in Bakelite.
This is a rare pair of dangle drops earrings created in America during the art deco period, back in 1930. The earrings have been crafted in butterscotch bakelite with the rare yellowish polka dot patterns. The are fitted on top with movable clips with wires which are decorated with two oval cabochons buttons made in the same material. These unique pair are in very fresh perfect condition.
Bakelite
This was the first synthetic plastic, developed in 1907 by Leo Hendrik Baekeland. He was a Belgian-born chemist who immigrated to the United States and worked in photographic chemistry, eventually inventing Velox, a new type of photographic paper. Baekeland then turned his attention to finding a synthetic substitute for shellac, leading him to the discovery of Bakelite.
