GEORGIAN 1820 Antique Convertible Dangle Drops Earrings 18Kt Gold & Moonstones

About the Item

Georgian antique dangle drops earrings. This is a fabulous antique pair of dangle-drops convertible earrings, created in England during the late Georgian period, circa 1820. These earrings were carefully crafted with dotted and scrolls elements made up in solid rich yellow gold of 18 karats with textured finish. They are embellished with an exceptional selection of four carvings of natural moonstones. The earrings are fitted with concealed hinged wires for pierced ears and are convertible, since the upper parts can be removed and wear alone as a more casual day look. It should be noted that the gemstones used in this piece are of exceptional quality considering the period. Seeing a piece from this period with this quality is very rare and extremely difficult. Moonstones: Mounted in bezel settings, with 2 round cabochon cuts (8 mm) of natural moonstones, with an approximate total weight of 4.00 carats. Moonstones: Mount in dangle settings, with 2 fancy briolette cuts (52 x 12 x 12 mm) of natural moonstones, with an approximate total weight of 30.00 carats. Birthstone: Moonstones for the month of June. Weight: 19.2 Grams, (12.31 Dwt). Measurements: 85 mm by 10 mm (3.34 x 0.39 Inches). Hallmarks: No marks, electronically tested for 18 karats gold, (.750/.999 Au). The Georgian Jewelry The term Georgian refers to an era in English history during the reign of Kings George I to King George IV from 1714-1840. Like the term Victorian (used for jewelry during Queen Victoria's rule), it is accepted in use as a term that refers to certain styles of jewelry. Pearls, sapphires, rubies and garnets were widely used in Georgian jewelry, often cut in the shape of a cabochon or teardrop. Rubies and pearls were a fashionable combination at the time.
