Vintage William Spratling Sterling Silver Large Mexican Modernist Earrings

About the Item

These beautiful, large William Spratling earrings have the ephemeral feel of butterfly wings. William Spratling, Architecture professor and lecturer, has been called the Father of Mexican Modernist Silver Design. He earned a degree in architecture from Auburn University, formerly the Alabama Polytechnic Institute and was invited to teach there upon graduation. In 1931, he travelled to Taxco, Mexico to re-establish the silver industry traditional to the area, naming his workshop Taller de las Delicias. Striking, unusual Mesoamerican and Pre-Colombian motifs with a modern aesthetic and high level of quality attracted collectors and gave Mexican artisans a venue for expressing their cultural heritage. Spratling silver was sold through such prominent American stores as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. Modernist Georg Jensen Astrid Fog Large Sterling Silver Cross Bars Necklace
By Georg Jensen
Located in New York, NY
Scarce large 1970's Scandinavian Modernist sterling silver cross bars necklace by Astrid Fog for Georg Jensen. Astrid Fog (1911-1993) designed her first jewelry collection for Georg Jensen in 1969. Her jewelry designs are distinctive for their large scale and bold, modernist style using classic geometric forms such as rectangles, circles and squares. She successfully utilized high quality lightweight, hollow silver forms to create pieces which were striking as well as comfortable to wear. This beautiful necklace is from the estate of a noted New York City psychiatrist who collected interesting, unusual, often one-of-a-kind jewelry. The pendant measures 2.19 inches by 2.19 inches. The chain is 29 inches long. Marks: 379 925 S Denmark Georg Jensen...
