About the Item
This Locket pendant was carved out of bog oak in 1860 ca. It has a good size, the naturalistic carving is very fine and in high relief. Bog oak is fossilised wood in its early stage. During the Victorian era its use for jewellery was a particularly popular in Ireland but it was also used in Britain.
On the reverse of the pendant we see an old black and white photograph of a gentleman in a brass frame under glass.
