About the Item
A Victorian ruby and pearl snake stick-pin, the coiled snake with three faceted rubies set on the forehead, two cabochon-set ruby eyes, suspending a pearl from the mouth, the finely engraved body mounted in yellow gold, circa 1880, the jewelled part measuring 2.6cm x 1cm, the pin measuring 7cm, gross weight 4.2 grams.
This very fine Victorian stick pin comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. During the Victorian era, the serpent symbolised everlasting love. This finely rendered serpent is embellished with bright rubies and a lovely natural pearl.
This antique pin is in very good condition for its age. Unmarked, tested a 15ct gold.

A stunning Victorian 0.59 carat ruby and 0.08 carat diamond, 22 karat yellow gold and silver set 'snake' brooch; part of our diverse antique jewelry collections.
This stunning, fine and impressive Victorian brooch has been crafted in 22k yellow gold with a silver setting.
The brooch has been modelled in the form of a snake, twisted and entwined around itself.
The head of the snake is ornamented with a feature 22k yellow gold bezel set cushion cut ruby.
A further five graduated 22k yellow gold pavé set round cut rubies graduate the back of the snake's head.
A total of sixteen pavé set Dutch cut diamonds embellish the silver set snakes head.
Two smaller bezel set round cut rubies represent the snake's eyes.
The writhing body of the snake is plain and unembellished.
The brooch secures to the reverse with a 9k yellow gold hinged pin and safety clasp.
This brooch has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 22k gold and silver set, with a 9k gold pin.
