About the Item
Glamorous Art Deco faceted cherry red Bakelite necklace, featuring graduated beads connected by metal links in excellent condition. Bakelite, the first synthetic plastic, was invented in 1907 by Leo Baekeland. This thermosetting plastic was widely used for its durability, heat resistance, and electrical insulation properties. Bakelite jewellery, particularly popular during the Art Deco period (1915-1935), is now considered antique and collectible.
