A spectacular certified natural and untreated jadeite jade necklace in variegated apple green.
107 hand-carved and polished light apple green jade beads make for a 30" necklace of beguiling beauty. How is it possible for ordinary stone beads to be so fantastically beautiful? The answer is that jade is no ordinary stone. Natural and untreated jadeite beads such as these always appear luminous as if internally lit.
The beads graduate in size from 3.99mm to 10.27mm and they display beautiful translucency. This is an exceedingly elegant necklace that remains on its original and still perfectly sturdy natural fiber string with knots hand-tied between each bead. A 14K yellow gold clasp finishes the piece.
This is a very soothing tone of green. And it's a color of jadeite that was extremely popular in jewelry from the 1920s, so it's possible the necklace was created in the 1920s and restrung in the 1950s. The beads also display a pre-industrial revolution polish, meaning they were polished not with motorized tools and diamond paste but by a foot-powered treadle and garnet dust, which also suggests an original origin in the `1920s. Instead of the high-gloss shine of a grand piano, these beads have soft, sensual hand polish. If you would like a more high-polish look, it's perfectly safe (and enjoyable) to apply a small amount of beeswax to the beads and then gently polish them with a cloth. (If you wax highly-polished new jade it just feels slippery.)
There are no cracked or broken beads and no repairs on this beautiful necklace. It ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the jade is natural and untreated jadeite from Burma (Myanmar).

Bright, and filled with light, this radiant Art Deco era (circa 1920s -1930s) necklace is composed of 107 hand-carved and polished natural and untreated Burmese jadeite jade beads. The beads range in size from 4.13mm to 9.38.
Overall, the beads are a bright, fresh spring green. I would say "pea green" but that sounds so awful. In truth, the beads are the color of those hard and shiny peas that you see when you crack open the first pod of the season. But these beads are also genetically gifted: they contain little patches of shockingly perfect imperial green, deep forest green, and even a green so faint it reminds me of light green velvet rubbed the wrong way so that light reflects off where you stroked your finger over the velvet and the green velvet is now whiter.
Yes, go ahead and say it: the necklace deserves a finer clasp. But does it? This clasp is original to the piece. It was made by hand in the early twentieth century. It's silver and once it was gilt.
