About the Item
A treat of a Silver Book Chain and locket necklace that has the beautiful engraving of the Victorian era and is steeped with symbolism of unity and connection. The locket is unscathed and has two inside oval frames for your photographs. It closes with a snap and is engraved with ivy leaves that symbolize clinging to each other. The locket is hallmarked. The necklace has links in the form of a bow tied of ivy. First time I have seen this. Love is in the air and you will feel the message when you wear this beautiful chain. Joining links are decorated as well. The necklace is frilly but not overly so. Just enough design to make an eye catching statement and bring questions of its history. The symbolism can be romantic or a message between dear friends. Book chains are wearable all year and can be day to day, denim or office or with an evening dress. Between 1860-1880 in Great Britain, Queen Victorian broke her years of wearing only black following the death of Prince Albert. She gifted Jenny Lind with a silver necklace and wore silver herself. A period followed in which the silver industry exploded with beautiful designs in bracelets, earrings, brooches and necklaces. Enjoy this lovely example. Locket 2 3/8 long with bale.
