Georgian Parure Set Gold Silver Rose Cut Diamond Necklace Earrings Brooch

About the Item

An antique Georgian parure set, made of gold and silver, featuring approximately 20 carats of rose cut diamonds. This impressive Georgian set includes a necklace, a pair of earrings, and a brooch. The antique necklace features a series of circular elements, each adorned with a rose cut diamond at its center. The diamonds are set in silver floral design and surrounded by glossy black enamel on yellow gold. Tiny yellow gold flowers punctuate the necklace between the circular diamond details, adding depth to the overall composition. The central diamond designed with “en tremblant” effect (a French term to describe elements that create movement). The dangling earrings mirror the necklace’s design with its elegant, elongated drops featuring rose cut diamonds set in silver and framed by enamel and gold detailing. The brooch is designed as a cluster of rose cut diamonds, arranged in a floral motif. The opulent flower is framed by a ribbon of black enamel and gold that repeats the design of the set. This antique diamond brooch also has a trembler--a spring that holds the piece together and causes the movement. This remarkable set comes in an original 200-300 years old fitted box. The stunning Georgian parure is made of silver, 18 karat (tested) yellow gold, rose cut diamonds and black enamel. The riviere necklace features twenty-four rose cut diamonds. Diamond total weight is approximately 15 carats. The antique necklace is 16 ½” (42 centimeters) long, its width graduates from ¾” (1.9 centimeter) in the center to ½” (1.3 centimeters) at the clasp. The necklace weighs 84.4 grams. The Georgian earrings feature approximately 1.65 carats of rose cut diamonds. They measure 2 1/8” x ½” (5.5 x 1.3 centimeter) and weigh 19.5 grams. The antique brooch features approximately 3.50 carats of rose cut diamonds. It measures 2 1/8" x 1 ½” (5.7 x 4 centimeters) and weighs 40.5 grams. About Georgian Jewelry: The Georgian period, named after the reigns of the four King Georges of England (1714-1830), is a dynamic and evolving era for jewelry design. Early Georgian jewelry often reflected the Baroque and Rococo styles, with elaborate and intricate details. As the period progressed, the influence of Neoclassicism became more pronounced, with motifs inspired by ancient Greece and Rome becoming popular. Jewelry from this time was typically handcrafted, as mass production techniques had not yet been developed. This means that each piece from the Georgian era is unique, with variations that reflect the individual taste of the jeweler. Georgian jewelers employed a variety of materials. Diamonds were often set in silver, as it was believed to enhance their sparkle, while colored gemstones were typically set in gold. The use of paste, a type of leaded glass, was also common for simulating the appearance of precious stones. Designs were rich and varied, as cultural influences of the time came from symbolism and nature. For example, anchors representing hope or snakes symbolizing eternity. Cameos and intaglios, with carved gemstones or shells, were highly prized. Girandole earrings featuring a central element with three dangling components came from the Georgian era. Jewelry in that time was often designed for specific occasions. For instance, mourning jewelry was crafted to commemorate loved ones, featuring somber designs and materials like jet or black enamel. Such gifts as sentimental jewelry, with lover’s eye miniatures or lockets containing hair, were widely popular. We love Georgian jewelry due to its rarity and the craftsmanship it represents. Its designs provide a glimpse into the fashion and culture of 18th and early 19th-century Europe.
