About the Item
Finely detailed, this strikingly stunning and symbolic Art Nouveau pendant depicts Greek goddess, Maia. With her nymphs in the background, Maia sows seeds reflecting her connection to spring and growth. The irregular outline of the 14 karat yellow gold medallion is artfully framed by a beautiful iris and the word "May" graces the base of the medal. This pendant started life as a watch pin, but the pin has been removed and a bail attached for modern day wear.
The name "Helen du Bose" is hand engraved on the back of the high polished pendant.
The medallion weighs 6.5 grams and is approximately 1" round, 1 1/4" with the bail.
The month of May is believed to be named after Maia who is associated with the growth of plants and the care of newborns.

This Art Nouveau gold lorgnette likely originates from the United States during the first 20 years of the 20th Century. Crafted from 14 karat yellow gold the lorgnette is extremely simple in its design and is virtually void of ornamentation with the exception of some fine scrollwork around the lens casing. The lenses that are currently fitted are likely original, and whilst in-tact do have some abrasions to the surface of the glass. The piece is marked internally for 14 karat gold and also has a makers mark in the form of a Maltese cross inside a circle, which is currently unidentified. In good condition the piece only has some minor dents to the gold which are commensurate with age. Once a very frequently used object, this wondrous lorgnette would be a beautiful pendant on a long chain for someone wanting a piece of gold...

This exceptional, fine and impressive antique pendant has been crafted in 18k yellow gold, in the iconic Art Nouveau manner*.
The pendant displays a central pierced decorated interlacing oval design ornamented with impressive hot enamel decoration, incorporating blue and green graduating tones.
This antique enamel pendant suspends from a 14ct yellow gold chain via two ring loops to the apex of the frame, and secures to the reverse with a conventional ring bolt clasp fastening.
The reverse surface of the Art Nouveau pendant is embellished with the contemporary engraved inscription 'To E.M.T. from W.E.F. 1st June 1910'.
This pendant is hallmarked to the reverse with the 18k gold mark (18CT) and has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18 karat gold with a 14 karat gold chain.
NOTE:* This pendant reflects the iconic Art Nouveau gold and enamel jewellery designs of Liberty and Archibald Knox.
