Art Deco Platinum Onyx Pendant on Modern Gold Diamond Chain Necklace

About the Item

A striking Art Deco platinum black onyx pendant necklace on a white gold diamond chain. The necklace’s design showcases an interplay of materials and geometry. The pendant is crafted as a large black onyx hoop that is smooth, dark, and perfectly round. Four diamond-set platinum elements are spaced evenly around the onyx. The diamonds are Old European and single cut diamonds. The back of the pendant is made of white gold. The top and bottom of the onyx pendant are anchored by larger platinum caps, each fan-shaped and accented with rows of diamonds. It’s suspended from a modern 14k white gold chain with the diamonds by the yard design, where bezel set diamonds are spaced along a delicate link chain. This piece brings Art Deco design into a wearable jewel that works just as well with formal looks as it does for a night out. The architectural shapes and symmetrical layout give the piece a mix of soft shimmer and unique character. The pendant is made of platinum, black onyx and accented with Old European and single cut diamonds (H-J color VS clarity, total weight approximately 2.20 carats). The back of the pendant is made of 14 karat white gold. The Art Deco pendant measures 3" x 2" x 1/4" (7.6 x 5 x 0.6 cm) and weighs 27.9 grams. The modern diamond-by-the-yard double chain is made of 14 white gold and set with 144 round brilliant cut diamonds (G-H color, VS2 clarity, total weight approximately 5.50 carats). It measures 18" x 1/8" (46 x 0.5 cm) and weighs 8.8 grams. About Art Deco Jewelry: Art Deco, an influential design style, emerged in the early 20th century, reaching its peak during the Jazz Age, in the 1920-1930s. Since then, Art Deco jewelry has remained highly appreciated for its strong geometric shapes, undeniable elegance, and chic. The jewelry from this period reflects cultural changes of the time, mirroring the exuberance of the Roaring Twenties. For instance, square, triangular, and trapezoidal cuts were favored, reflecting a departure from the organic motifs of previous design eras. Art Deco jewelers embraced new materials and techniques Platinum, being the most popular metal during the Art Deco era, also contributed to the period jewelry popularity. At that time the Merensky-Reef, the world’s largest platinum deposit, was discovered in South Africa. The metal’s characteristics allowed it to create delicate yet durable designs. The emphasis on symmetry and precision in Art Deco design reflected the influence of the machine age. Jewelry pieces were often precisely crafted, featuring symmetrical arrangements. Art Deco jewelry design often incorporated functional elements. Pieces frequently doubled as practical accessories, such as watches integrated into bracelets or brooches. The Art Deco movement drew inspiration from various cultures, including ancient Egyptian, Asian, and African motifs. These influences are apparent in the use of symbols and patterns that added an eclectic flair to the jewelry. Vintage Art Deco engagement rings are always in high demand. They have a perfectly balanced geometry and often feature Old European and cushion cut diamonds. Black and white combos, such as diamond and black onyx, or black enamel create a dramatic effect.
