Rare and stylish, this 1920s pendant is detailed and evocative.
Condition Report:
Excellent - This pendant has recently been restored back into necklace form. A green silk cord has been added similar to that which the pendant would have originally hung from. This is detailed with original vintage brass beads. Three original vintage carnelian glass beads have been suspended from the pendant and these are similar to those which would have been combined with the piece originally.
The Details...
This pendant is constructed from green Galalith and is detailed with a circular gilded metal disc featuring enamelled winged scarab motifs. Suspended from the necklace are three carnelian glass beads. The pendant hags from a green silk cord necklace detailed with small brass rondelle beads. The necklace measures 60cm and the pendant is 6cm x 6.5cm. The glass beads have a drop of 4cm.
A Short History...
In 1922, Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun and, thereby, ignited a Western fascination with Ancient Egypt which permeated the Arts. Jewellery designers created heavily stylised profiles of people and images taken from tomb walls and incorporated them into their work. Reviving Egyptian motifs was a real 1920s celebration of adventure and breaking down cultural barriers.

The Details...
Constructed from 9ct gold, this pendant features an oval porcelain plaque hand-painted with a miniature portrait. The reverse of the plaque is signed by the artist. Their name is difficult to decipher due to ageing. However, their initials appear to be L and M. It is dated 1876. The piece features a bail, so that it can be worn as a pendant. It also features a fastening mechanism, so that it may be worn as a brooch. The pin is attached to the brooch with a tube hinge and the brooch fastens with a traditional safety catch. The piece measures 5.5cm x 4.5cm.

The term Jugendstil, meaning "Young Style," was derived from the magazine Die Jugend and describes an art and design movement which took place in Germany from c.1896 through to c.1915.
