Nanna Ditzel She was born in 1923. Was a Danish designer graduated from the furniture department of the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. Has been studying under prof. Kaare Klint at the Royal Academy of Copenhagen. Nanna Ditzel is working with experimental and industrial design furniture, textiles, silver, faience and glass. Has experimented with the use of split-level living for indoors and outdoors. These ideas have been carried out in playgrounds, children’s libraries and showrooms. She is a freelance designer; she has a design office and showrooms in London. Nanna Ditzel started an independent design office in 1946 together with Jorgen Ditzel. The co-operation lasted until the death of Jorge Ditzel in 1961. Nanna Ditzel created many designs for Georg Jensen, mostly jewelry although she also created some hollowware. The relationship between the couple and the Silversmith began when Nanna decided to start designing jewelry as something she could do at home while her children slept. Soon after, a jewelry competition sponsored by A. Michelsen arose, and her designs had won first prize. Later, in 1954, Finn Juhl, who was developing the 50th anniversary exhibition, passed the design work off for the exhibition to Dietzel’s. Five pieces of jewelry were created for this exhibition, which were very well received. Further jewelry designs were created, and many of these pieces would go on to win various awards and prizes. In 1968, Nanna Ditzel remarried to Kurt Heide and relocated to London where they continued to work in the realm of design, establishing their own company Nanna Ditzel Productions Ltd. In 1986, her second husband passed away, and she moved back to Denmark, continuing her work. In recent years, Ditzel has focused mainly on furniture design, such as the Trinidad chair in 1993, however this design has also led to further refinement for her jewelry pieces such as the bracelet #389 in 1994. Ditzel has won many major awards during her long career and has had her work exhibited all over the world. She received the silver and gold medals at the Milan Tirennale (1954 and 1960), the Lunning Prize (with Jorgen Ditzel in 1954) and a gold medal at the International Furniture Design Competition in 1990, and the Thorvald Bindesboll Medal in 1999. She has also taken on the title of Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog, Honorable Royal Designer (1996). From Georg Jensen Hollowware, The Silver fund Collection, David A. Taylor & Jason W. Laskey, 2003. Literature: A similar example of the design in silver can be found on p. 276 in the book, "Georg Jensen Jewelry" edited by David A. Taylor. VITO CAMPANELLA 1970 Surrealist Pendant Brooch In 18Kt Yellow Gold With Gems
Located in Miami, FL
Pendant brooch designed by Vito Campanella (1932-2014). Very rare pendant brooch, created by the surrealist artist, sculptor, and goldsmith Vito Campanella, back in the late 1970's. This piece of art was crafted in Buenos Aires Argentina in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with brushed and polished finishes. The artistic brooch was made up in three dimensions with three women's profiles with surrealist patterns and is part of the collection named "Mujer.... Mujeres". It is embellished with eighteen earth mined natural gemstones such: diamonds and one emerald. The piece is fitted at the reverse with a ring to wear as a necklace in a chain and a hinged pin bar with a mechanical lock to wear as a brooch. Vito Campanella Vito Campanella was an Argentine painter of Italian origin born in Monopoli, Bari on October 17, 1932. Before establishing himself in Buenos Aires in 1955, Campanella studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Brera in Milan and in cultural centers of important European artists. Campanella has had numerous solo and group exhibitions. At the age of 16, the young Campanella was selected to create a mural in the church of his hometown and shortly after he won the “Pintura delle Regione” prize in Naples. In 1952, at just 20 years old, he was invited to exhibit at the Annual Salon of Bari, then traveling to the beautiful city of Florence, where he participated in various cultural activities and began to travel his aesthetic path through abstract art, pop art and geometry, until he found his definitive style, surrealism. Later, thanks to the sculptor G. Rossi, there was a meeting with the person who finally defined his painting: the teacher Giorgio De Chirico, founder of the Scuola Metafisica movement, architect of Campanella's relationship with this philosophical current. In Rome, he met Salvador Dalí, who became an important reference for Campanella within surrealism. For a period, he lived in Milan, and took anatomy classes at the School of Fine Arts of the renowned Brera Academy, acquiring knowledge of harmony and proportion of the human body that would later be widely reflected in his work. There he began to become interested in the Latin American and Argentine painting movements of the 1950s and decided to reunite with his family, already settled in Argentina, without leaving aside his ties with Europe. Thus, he participated in the Metamorphosis Salon of the Grand Palais de Champs-Élysées and the Salon d'Autumne Vallambreuse, both in Paris. His Surrealist jewels have corroborated his gift as skilled goldsmith.
