GEORGIAN 1810 England Blue Enameled Pendant In Silver Gold & Diamonds

About the Item

Georgian enameled pendant made in England. This a fabulous and extremely rare locket pendant, created in England during the Georgian period, between the 1790 and 1810. The incredible locket pendant show floriated motifs made up with parts in .920/.999 silver, accents of yellow gold and embellished with engine turned guilloche toped with navy blue glass enamel. The pendant is embellished with European rose cut diamonds, precisely two hundred-eighteen earth mined and consistent from the period with no replacements. The upper part has a rectangular frame with a delicate painting showing a recent born baby in a forest, seated, reclined back and playing with a pigeon. Most probably this piece was for a memento gift-ricordi for a new born baby. The locket is fitted at the reverse with a three barrels hinged door with a glass and a snap closing to hold a picture or a memento and a concealed movable bale to wear in a chain necklace. Georgian Jewelry This is a term that refers to an era in English history during the reigns of King George I to King George IV, from 1714 to 1837. Like the term Victorian (used for jewelry during Queen Victoria's rule), it is accepted in use as a term that refers to certain styles of jewelry. Pearls, sapphires, rubies and garnets were widely used in Georgian jewellery, often cut in the shape of a cabochon or teardrop. Rubies and pearls were a fashionable combination at the time. Some of our collection of Georgian gemstone rings. Popular cuts for diamonds included 'rose cut', 'old mine cut' and 'table cut. Guilloche This term is used in fine jewelry to enhance the appearance of brooches, rings and pendants. Guilloché enamel refers to metal pieces that have been given the Guilloché treatment and then covered with a translucent layer of enamel, giving the geometric patterns underneath the enamel a colorful hue. The word originates from France dating back to the 18th century when a French engineer named Guillot invented a tool / turning machine - although this fact and his existence are often debated.
