About the Item

This beautiful cut steel pendant dates from the Georgian era. Condition Report: Excellent The Details... This pendant was made in the Georgian era. It was perhaps originally a button and was converted into a pendant in the late 1800s to early 1900s. It features a halo of cut steel studs, assembled onto a what is most likely a gold vermeil mounting. The studs have been faceted to resemble stars. At the centre of the pendant is a molded glass cabochon, which is detailed with a purple and brown star or flower pattern. The cabochon is mounted in a claw setting. The diameter of the pendant is 3cm. A Short History... From the late 1700s through to the late 1800s, cut steel was a highly popular material in jewellery and accessory manufacture. It sparkled like diamonds, but was less expensive. It catered for a middle class of jewel enthusiast. It was a particularly coveted material in French society with Napoleon's second Empress, Marie-Louise, commissioning sets made out of cut steel. She made it very fashionable indeed. Wear it With... Add this pendant to your favourite antique chain and wear a piece of history everyday.

c.1900 Jugendstil Antique Paste and Red Glass Pendant
Located in Skelmersdale, GB
This beautiful pendant was probably created in Austria in c.1900. Condition Report: Excellent The Details... This pendant is constructed from gilded metal. It features a typically abstract, but organic, Jugendstil design. It is set with an oval shaped, open-back, red glass stone and round, colourless, multi-faceted paste stones. It measures 7cm x 4.75cm. A Short History... The term Jugendstil, meaning "Young Style," was derived from the magazine Die Jugend and describes an art and design movement which took place in Germany from c.1896 through to c.1915. Taking place at the same time as the Art Nouveau movement, which was inspired by the natural world, Jugendstil was also heavily influenced by organic shapes but contrasted them with geometric forms resulting in very stylised designs. Important Jugendstil jewellery designers were Carl Herman, Meyle and Mayer...

1920s Egyptian Revival Silver Gilt and Enamel Vintage Charms Necklace
Located in Skelmersdale, GB
This beautiful necklace is emblematic of the evocative 1920s Egyptian Revival aesthetic and was made in France. Condition Report: Very Good - A slight kink in the chain and a tiny bend at the base of one of the charms. This is consistent with age and use and does not detract from the appeal of the piece. The Details... Although un-hallmarked, this necklace is most likely constructed from silver gilt. It features a delicate herringbone chain. Suspended from the chain is a selection of Egyptian inspired charms. There are Ankhs, Lotus flowers and Hamsa hand symbols. There are also three postage stamp charms detailed with skiff boats on the Nile and the goddess, Hathor. The necklace fastens with a bolt ring and measures 38cm in length. A Short History... In 1922, Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun and, thereby, ignited a Western fascination with Ancient Egypt which permeated the Arts. Jewellery designers created heavily stylised profiles of people and hieroglyphs taken from tomb walls, as can be seen in this necklace. Reviving Egyptian...
