About the Item

This one-of-a-kind 18-karat yellow gold kinetic pendant was created by artist jeweler Giorgio Facchini in Italy in 1977 and is in superb condition. A unique piece of modernist jewelry, it is both bold and minimalist. Measuring 2.5 inches by 2.3 inches, and weighing 36.39 grams, it can be worn on a leather cord, or chain, or either long or short. Like many of Facchini’s creations, this pendant is characterized by the interplay between fullness and emptiness, with its design changing with the movement of the wearer’s body. Watch the smooth polished metal morph as you turn the pendant from side to side. It is a remarkable example of kinetic art, exploring the malleability of shapes within three-dimensional spaces, and stands as a testament to Facchini’s innovative approach to jewelry design. Wonderful to wear. Giorgio Facchini, born in Fano, Italy, in 1947, began working for a goldsmith at the age of ten, where he learned the technical skills of metal. He studied with sculptor Edgardo Mannucci and began to make sculptural jewelry, following in the tradition of Arnaldo and Giò Pomodoro, blurring the distinction between jewelry and sculpture. By his twenties, he was creating forward-thinking, abstract yet wearable designs inspired by both architecture and his own sculptures that explore the interplay of light and space. In 1969, Facchini introduced Kinetic Jewels, a collection of dynamic and futuristic pieces integrating geometric motifs and kinetic elements. That same year, Pierre Cardin commissioned him to create jewelry for his Haute Couture collection. This launched Facchini to international recognition and acknowledgment from museums. Facchini has won several international awards and produces exclusive, one-of-a-kind pieces prized by collectors around the world. Mahnaz Collection owns one of the largest collections of his early and contemporary jewelry, including several award-winning pieces.
