Rare Shakudo Locket Pendant Necklace Bird Parrot Cockatoo Fan Japan Antique

This is a very rare ring depicting a snake traveling through the grass in the historic Japanese art form of Shakudo, in 14 Karat Gold. The Shakudo pieces originated in the Samurai period in Japan and were created by esteemed artists who made ornaments to adorn swords and armor. When the Samurai period ended, these artists moved to making wearable art during the period of the 1870s - 1900. Here we have a very rare Shakudo piece of a snake traveling through grass. Notice the grace of the proportion of the images and the Japanese esthetic of asymmetry. The mixed metals Shakudo plaque is set in 14 Karat Gold. This exceptional, fine and impressive antique locket has been crafted in 14k yellow gold. The exceptional yellow gold locket has an oval form, embellished with impressive embossed and chased Burmese style decoration to the domed anterior and posterior covers. The ornamentation to the anterior surface depicts the figure of Krishna* playing the flute, positioned next to a calf, and surrounded by intricate floral motifs. The posterior face of the locket bears the figure of Saraswati** playing a Saraswati veena, with a swan in the foreground of the image and floral motifs encircling the figure. The yellow gold border of the locket is plain and unembellished. This hinged locket opens to reveal two windows, allowing for a personal memento to be stored within.
