About the Item

Reversible pendant by Navajo silversmith Calvin Begay. The purple spiny oyster pendant with cobblestone inlay is set in sterling silver. The reverse side is sterling silver with a traditional pattern. The 7/8” x 1-1/2” pendant has a 1/2” bale for a total length of 2”. It is on a purple spiny oyster beaded necklace with an adjustable length between 18” and 20”. In the artistry of Calvin Begay, the stunning beauty of the untamed West is reflected in the combination of color and design that creates unforgettable pieces of wearable art. Born and raised on the Navajo Nation, Calvin was surrounded by the vibrant colors and stunning landscapes of the Southwest, and those inspirations shine through in his artwork. He's a man of many talents, too - he's a painter, sculptor, jeweler, and more. But it's his jewelry that sets him apart. Calvin's pieces are truly works of art, with intricate designs and impeccable attention to detail. He uses a mix of traditional and contemporary techniques to create his masterpieces, often incorporating precious stones like turquoise, lapis lazuli, and coral. And he's got some serious accolades to his name, too - he's won awards at the prestigious Santa Fe Indian Market and has been featured in major galleries and museums across the country. He's passionate about preserving traditional Navajo techniques and passing on his knowledge to future generations. He's also involved in a number of philanthropic endeavors, using his art to support causes like cancer research and education.
