Signet Fob Sola Virtus Nobilitat Henderson Society, 1890

About the Item

Cornelian Signet Fob of the Scottish Clan Henderson Society. Created around 1890. A fine historical item with amazing significance. The signet Cornelian says: Sola Virtus Nobilitat (Virtue Alone Enobles). And has the Clan Henderson Society logo. With a star in a hand and a Crescent Moon. Heritage of the clan. The sons of Henry (MacEanruig) are a family as old as any clan in the Highlands. In modern times, Clan Henderson traces the lineage through the Chief of the Name and Arms of Henderson, Alistair of Fordell. However, in times more distant Henderson’s can claim descent from a King of the Picts and down through five unique bloodlines evolving from the regions of Caithness, Fordell, Glencoe, Shetlands/Liddesdale and Ulster. Henderson’s from the Glencoe region have strong ties to the MacDonald Clan and were renowned as pipers and bodyguards to the Glencoe MacDonald Chief (MacIan). Henderson’s from the Caithness region have ties to the Clan Gunn. A true future classic, its value will be sure to rise as time goes by. It is a perfect item both for a fine jewelry collection and to be worn for special occasions. Well, worth a fine jewelry collection. Weight: 0.31 oz (8.9 gr) Length: 2.5 cm (0.98 inches)

Antique Georgian Carnelian Small Fob Pendant
Located in Rotterdam, NL
This antique Georgian fob pendant, dating back to the late 18th to early 19th century, is a fine example of the elegant craftsmanship of the period. The pendant is adorned with a carnelian stone, a richly colored orange-red gemstone that was highly favored during the Georgian era. The carnelian is polished and set securely into a decorative metal mount, featuring engraved lines throughout the fob. The pendant’s design reflects the artistic trends of the time, combining functionality with aesthetic appeal. Fobs were originally practical items used to seal letters and documents with wax. The base of the fob, typically engraved with a crest, monogram, or decorative motif, would leave an imprint in the wax, serving as a personalized signature. This made them essential tools for gentlemen and women of status during the Georgian era, as they were used for authenticating important communications. Beyond their functional purpose, fobs quickly became fashionable accessories, symbolizing wealth, style, and social standing. Worn on a pocket watch chain, waistcoat, or as pendants, fobs often showcased intricate designs and high-quality materials, such as precious stones like carnelian, amethyst, or agate. The vibrant carnelian stone was particularly popular due to its durability and its association with protection, vitality, and courage. Over time, fobs evolved from purely utilitarian objects to highly decorative jewelry pieces, admired for their beauty and craftsmanship. They were often gifted as sentimental tokens or symbols of affection, further enhancing their appeal. This Georgian carnelian...
