About the Item

Sterling silver Navajo squash blossom necklace by award winning Navajo silversmith Tommy Jackson. The 27” necklace is comprised of 12 squash blossoms with a Blue Gem turquoise and a naja made up of 10 Blue Gem turquoise set in sterling silver. The sterling beads are handmade. Tommy is known for carefully selecting his stones and uses only the highest quality of turquoise and coral he can find. The Blue Gem mine, which is no longer active, produced a great variety of turquoise, from intense blue to deep green with an irregular matrix. The Blue Gem mine, which began production in 1934 yielded the most valuable Blue Gem turquoise because of its rich color and hardness. Award winning Navajo silversmith Tommy Jackson, is a third generation silversmith, following the footsteps of his parents, Martha and Gene Jackson. Tommy was born in 1958 and making jewelry since he was twenty years old. He is known for carefully selecting his stones and uses only the highest quality of turquoise and coral he can find. Tommy has won numerous awards for his Navajo jewelry including the Heard Museum Indian Market in Phoenix, Santa Fe Indian Market and The Museum of Northern Arizona. #J1725 @ G

Sterling Silver Handmade Vintage Bisbee Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace
Located in Scottsdale, AZ
An astonishing seventeen perfectly matched natural Bisbee turquoise cabochons were used to create this super rare squash blossom necklace. Today, due to the scarcity of the turquoise the necklace would not be able to be made. Each of the large specimens is the signature look of the lavender pit of the mine, deep Bisbee blue with reddish brown and purple matrix. The quality of the silver work is a great testament to the rarity and beauty of the stone. It is strung with beautiful handmade silver beads and is very wearable. Bisbee mine turquoise was one of the first to appear for sale on the modern American market, which is at least partly responsible for its fame. The turquoise mine was a secondary operation to the Bisbee copper mine, operated by the Phelps Dodge Corporation. The vast majority of Bisbee turquoise surfaced when the Phelps Dodge started their open pit...
