Sterling Silver Handmade Vintage Bisbee Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace

An astonishing seventeen perfectly matched natural Bisbee turquoise cabochons were used to create this super rare squash blossom necklace. Today, due to the scarcity of the turquoise the necklace would not be able to be made. Each of the large specimens is the signature look of the lavender pit of the mine, deep Bisbee blue with reddish brown and purple matrix. The quality of the silver work is a great testament to the rarity and beauty of the stone. It is strung with beautiful handmade silver beads and is very wearable. Bisbee mine turquoise was one of the first to appear for sale on the modern American market, which is at least partly responsible for its fame. The turquoise mine was a secondary operation to the Bisbee copper mine, operated by the Phelps Dodge Corporation. Sterling silver necklace by Navajo silversmith Leon Martinez. The adjustable 30-35” necklace featuring fine stamp and applique work is set with high grade Royston Turquoise. Each of the twelve 7/8” x 1 1/4” hand stamped stations display a 3/8” x 1/2” Royston cabochon. The 1 3/4” x 2” bottom pendant has ten Royston cabochons surrounding a 1/2” x 3/4” Royston stone. Royston is known for its beautiful colors ranging from deep green to rich, light blues with a brown matrix. While Royston is considered an active mine; it is a very small operation. Royston is a district in Nevada consisting of three turquoise mines: Bunker Hill, Oscar Wehrend, and the main producer, high quality Royal Blue.
