About the Item

Our wonderful 15K Victorian ring with the word "Mizpah" is known as a sentimental message ring and symbolizes the bond between two people separated by an act of war or other forced estrangement. This is a particularly charming ring with its simple large modern block letters set on a polished gold band, literally, gold on gold. A surprisingly modern look for a Victorian ring. Furthermore, a Mizpah sentimental message ring in 15K is a lucky find indeed (they were usually made in lower carat gold, during this time period). The message comes from a bible quote in the Old Testament book of Genesis and reads "And Mizpah; for he said, the Lord watch between thee and me, when we are absent one from another". Mizpah is the Hebrew word for "Watchtower", a pillar of stones which symbolized the covenant between Jacob and Laban. The ring has significance for both Judaism and Christianity. Mizpah rings were often exchanged between two people in the hope of protecting the pair during a period of separation. The ring is a size 6 1/2 and size-able. Don't miss out!

Victorian 18 Karat Gold and Enamel Mizpah Ring
Located in Stamford, CT
In striking contrast, this Mizpah ring was created c. 1870 in 18 Kt gold. In striking contrast with no wear, the word Mispah is raised in gold letters on a darker gold background. The borders are scalloped. A gold daisy is at the middle of the word. Mizpah is from the Hebrew bible meaning watchtower. The loose translation is May God Watch over you while we are apart. The word connotes a deep emotional relationship between two people. The added sentiment of the daisy is "think of me" which all Victorians recognized from the language of flowers. A beautiful ring of sentient and dedication. A perfect wedding band...
