Victorian 1850s 18K Gold Black Enamel “In Memory Of” Engraved Mourning Ring

About the Item

A Victorian black enamel and yellow gold ring, comprising black enamelled panels, reading “In Memory Of”, with engraving and carved floral edges, in 18 karat yellow gold. This meaningful band ring sports beautiful carved edges to the band. These edges are raised, and exquisitely carved with flowers and elegant scrolls. The recessed section of the band is complete with black enamelled panels, with letters in gold, reading “In Memory Of”, in dedication to a lost loved one. These enamelled panels are interspersed with engraved gold panels, with floral, cross-shaped motifs. The ring is in good condition, some wear and small losses to the enamel, which is in good condition considering the age of the piece. Wear and tear acquiescent with age. The ring measures 5.4mm wide. Gross weight: 3.37g Ring size: due to the width of the band, this ring fits like UK – O.5 US – 7.5 EU – 55.5 mm (actual size UK – Q US – 8.25 EU – 57.5 mm) Hallmarks: ‘18’ (18 karat gold), leopard head for London assay, date letter ‘a’ for 1856, makers mark “JW” (possibly for John Williams), bearing Queen Victoria duty stamp
