This beautiful Victorian ring is made utilizing Silver Topping technique.
The black enamel, an artwork and the choice of color for Victorian jewelry was applied on Silver portion of the mounting. Incidentally, black enamel in American jewelry had nothing to do with mishaps of the Queen. At the time, America was preoccupied by Civil War.
Garland Design engraving on the back of the mount in drape motion is in consistence with Naturalism(Art movement of 1850-1900). Nature is truthfully represented by rapid Claw Setting to hold a massive 25 Carat Sugar Loaf cut Emerald. Asymmetric openings beneath the enameled Silver portion is another symbolism of the times.
Unmistakable, light-brown color 14 karat gold is the distinct characteristic of this sample being American made. Masterful Granulation and Mille-Grain on curved surface has finished the heavy shank to withhold weight. The base curvature and distribution of weight in regards to friction surface of the shank has unique ability for comfortable ware and stoppage of flapping.
