C1830 Old Cut and Rose Cut Late Georgian Diamond Cluster Ring
About the Item
Our 18K gold and silver Diamond Cluster ring is a classic late Georgian cluster ring with with a rare combination of two different types of pave-set Georgian diamonds. This ring has both old cuts and rose cuts, both of which were in use by Georgian lapidaries of the time. It is rare to find a cluster ring with a combination of the 2 different cuts.
The outer layers of diamonds has 18 rose cut diamonds. The middle layer has 9 rose cuts. The larger central diamond at center is slightly elevated from the other diamonds and is an "old cut" diamond. ("Old cuts" is shortened lingo for old mine cuts"). As with other Georgian cluster rings, the emphasis is on the diamonds, set a jour and the effect is that of a glittering diamond flower.
The detail of the gold work on the original shank is of carved leaves on the sides with two perfect hand carved open-work triangles cut from each side, shown in the photos.
The outer and middle surrounding diamonds are rose cuts with a total weight of 80 points.
The center diamond is an old mine cut of .65 points.
Total weight of the diamonds is 1.45 carats.
