Georgian Bague au Fermament Ring

About the Item

This is a rare and beautiful 'Bague au Fermament' ring from the late 18th century. The ring dates to circa. 1790 and the workmanship is exceptional, epitomised in the elegantly patterned paste set centre. The ring is perfect for a collector and the glass backing is a dark purpley blue hue. In 18th century France a new trend emerged; Bagues au Fermament or 'rings of the heavens'. These rings were reminiscent of the night sky with blue hues and contrasting silver set bright white diamond or white paste stars. Marie Antoinette was known to wear her own Bague de Firmament almost everyday, its opulence and beauty fitting for Versailles.
