About the Item

A lovely "REGARD" ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This charming acrostic ring is made of 14k gold and has a lovely feminine design. Set across the front vertically is a row of six delicate gemstones, whose first letters spell out the word "REGARD." The stones include a Ruby, Emerald, Garnet, Amethyst, a second Ruby, and a Diamond. The stones are all held within prong settings, and vary in cut. The stones are held within a rectangular centerpiece, which is decorated with black enamel work, which create a striped design. The exterior of the rectangular centerpiece also features a textured, three-dimensional rope border. This wonderful ring is part of a sentimental antique tradition, and it would make a special gift in the modern day!   Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 6.5 but could be resized if desired. The gemstone design rests approximately 1/4" above the finger when worn. The tapered band measures 2.65mm wide at the back. Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to any of the gemstones, all of which are intact and securely set.

Elegant, timeless, feminine and wearable, the ring is a great addition to your jewelry collection. About Antique Rings: The artistry of making antique rings reflects the era’s cultural influences. Most antique rings were created by skilled artisans who meticulously handcrafted each piece. This level of craftsmanship allowed for intricate designs that were often time-consuming to produce. This includes filigree work, hand-chasing, granulation (tiny metal bead-work), and hand-piercing to create delicate openwork patterns. The emphasis on hand-made production is a hallmark of the era’s jewels. Antique rings were typically made from both gold and silver. The jewelers noticed that diamonds look whiter when set in white metal and not in yellow. The white gold was not invented back then yet and platinum was too hard for jewelry tools...
