Victorian Blue Glass Bead Snake Ring, c1890

About the Item

9ct gold Victorian snake ring consisting of 37 tiny blue glass beads threaded on flexible gold wire between a gold tail and a smiling snake head with a sapphire and ruby eye. Since ancient times snakes have been seen as a symbol for “Eternal love” and "Eternal life" so they were and still are often used as wedding rings, commitment rings or engagement rings. Snake rings became popular in England when Queen Victoria received an emerald snake ring as her engagement ring from her beloved Prince Albert. Snake rings were popular during the Darwin years when nature was a often source for fashion. Today snake rings are equally popular among both men and women. Because this ring is on a flexible wire it will fit between a Size 5 and a size 7 finger.
