18K Gold 1950’s Carved Moonstone Man in the Moon Ring with Diamonds
About the Item
This extremely well-detailed moonstone has a charming face of the man in the moon. It is exquisitely carved, with a matte surface to the carving. The man has a nice wide smile and rounded cheeks—he also reminds us of the face of Buddha. The carving has a high relief that adds to its character. The moonstone glows, and when held to the light, flickers with blue, purple and yellow iridescence that appears throughout the translucent stone. A diamond halo surrounds the moon, with bright white diamonds that offset the piece, and a milgrain border that accentuates the beauty of the diamonds. A simple split shank band gives the ring a clean look and squares off along the bottom.
This ring is circa the 1950’s, but the Man in the Moon was a popular motif during the Victorian era. Inspired by the shadowy face that seems to appear within the craters of a full moon, the Man in the Moon has captured the human imagination for centuries and has been referenced throughout the ages in myths and folklore. It made its way into Victorian jewelry around the turn of the century, when celestial jewelry was a popular motif, reflecting the culture’s fascination with astronomy.
The moonstone measures 9.25 mm across. The ring contains 30 natural diamonds that measure 1 mm each for a TCW of .30 of a carat. The diamonds are H in color and VS2 in clarity.
The face of the ring measures 12.25 mm across. It sits approximately 1/4” above the finger. The ring weighs 3.6 grams. Marked as 750 for 18k gold.

18K Gold Early Victorian Diamond Trilogy Ring with Blue Enamel Details

This 18k gold early Victorian ring features three Old Mind Cut diamonds encased in blue enamel square details. The diamonds are housed in a square, carved out setting in the 18k gold that creates a gorgeous contrast against the navy blue. The center square is larger, with a punched out format that raises it a layer above the rest of the ring. The deep blue enamel creates a ribbonlike detail on each end of the design. The diamonds are bead set, which enhances their sparkle and gives the visual illusion that they are square-shaped. At a larger size of 10.5, this makes a great unisex ring, ideal for a man or a woman’s middle finger.
The ring contains approximately 1/3 of a carat of natural antique diamonds. The center diamond is 3.5 mm, and two side diamonds are 2.5 mm. All three diamonds are Old Mine Cut with chunky shape and large culets. The diamonds are bright and lively, H-I in color, SL2 in clarity.
The ring is marked with 18CT and the maker’s mark of “G.TS”. The center square is 3/8” wide and the band tapers down to 3/16” on the bottom. The ring weighs 6.3 grams.
Ring size 10.5; due to the enamel, we do not recommend resizing.
