During the mid 1980's Haroldo Burle Marx created a mass produced line of silver jewelry for our former business, The ALTOMAR Collection. If you ever see a piece of Burle Marx silver, it undoubtedly came from us. This Free Form tourmaline ring is an example of the kinds of pieces we were making during this time period. It is stamped Burle Marx 950. The stone measures approximately .80 inches by .83 inches by .28 inches in depth. It is a size 7.5. It's overall weight is 17.8 grams. The ring has minor scratches as will happen with silver, and is in overall very good condition. In 1989 over half a million dollars worth of Burle Marx jewels were on display at The Houston Museum of Natural Science for a period of two years. Burle Marx was featured in Connoisseur Magazine, Town and Country, Vogue, U.S. News & World Report, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Dallas Morning News, and many others. As of late, there are some that have been using the term “Marx Brothers” to imply that Haroldo and his brother Roberto were in the jewelry business together. This could not be further from the truth. They had a falling out very early in Haroldo’s jewelry making career, and did not speak for the majority of their adult lives. Roberto was a world famous Landscape Architect, Artist, and Sculptor. He was not in the jewelry business. If you come across a piece of jewelry that's stamped "Burle Marx", it was made by Haroldo Burle Marx.
