About the Item

Early Victorian polished silver paste eglomise ring (a decorative technique where gold or silver leaf is applied to the back of glass, then a design is engraved through the leaf, and sometimes colored paint is added) with a border of paste stones and royal blue eglomise enamel. The blue color, representing virtue, and the charming forget me not flower, fashioned in "diamond" paste, speaks for itself and reveals this as a likely a love ring given by a suitor to his beloved. Paste refers to the glass stones that adorn this ring, and was a gemstone- like glass "stone" that lapidaries hand carved to create elaborate designs to adorn jewelry and other objects, starting in the Renaissance and continuing through the early 20th century. The craft has since been lost and whatever paste jewelry remains is all there is. At almost an inch tall this ring has the effect of elongating the hand. The inside band is curved to match the shape of the finger, making the ring "ergonomic", before ergonomics became mainstream! Size 7.75, sizeable.

Victorian Ring Silver 18k Gold Enamel Diamond Antique Estate Jewelry
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
A gorgeous Victorian ring, made of silver and 18k gold, features enamel and diamond. The ring has striking design owing to its elliptic shape and the bright blue enamel in the center. The diamonds are rose cut, bezel set in silver. Three diamonds staged in a vertical line in the center of the head. This arrangement is quite unusual for the modern jewelry and common for the Victorian era. The diamonds surrounding the enamel part create an airy looking halo. The shank is made of 18k gold and finely engraved with a beautiful floral pattern. This antique ring was crafted with a great attention to details which resulted in creating a true jewelry masterpiece of its time. This classic antique ring is made of 18 karat (tested) yellow gold and silver, marquise shaped blue enamel and approximately 1.30 carats rose cut diamonds. The Victorian cocktail ring measures 1 ½” x 7/8” x 3/8" (3.9 x 2 x 1 centimeters). The ring is size 7.5-7.75, it is re-sizable. The enamel ring weighs 13.9 grams. Elegant, timeless, feminine and wearable, the ring is a great addition to your jewelry collection. About Antique Rings: The artistry of making antique rings reflects the era’s cultural influences. Most antique rings were created by skilled artisans who meticulously handcrafted each piece. This level of craftsmanship allowed for intricate designs that were often time-consuming to produce. This includes filigree work, hand-chasing, granulation (tiny metal bead-work), and hand-piercing to create delicate openwork patterns. The emphasis on hand-made production is a hallmark of the era’s jewels. Antique rings were typically made from both gold and silver. The jewelers noticed that diamonds look whiter when set in white metal and not in yellow. The white gold was not invented back then yet and platinum was too hard for jewelry tools...
