About the Item

An intriguing and unusual ring from the aesthetic movement, C1885 consisting of a mix of 15K gold and platinum with a crane perched in a wildflower field. The design is 3 dimensionally raised, adding to the significant charm of the scene. Even the texture of the natural environment, the body of water, the crane's wings, and the wildflowers, are well defined by this Japanese talented artisan. This ring was likely made for the export market, where there was great demand for Japanesque jewelry with its charming asymmetric nature scenes hand carved by Japanese artisans. This is why we consider it a European ring; the band most definitely was made in Europe, although the ring face was likely from a Japanese sword fitting. The crane has enormous symbolism in Japanese culture. They are a symbol of fidelity; cranes are known to mate for life. They are a symbol of longevity; attributing to their long lifespan. The crane is connected with peace and healing. And finally, the crane is associated with strength, as shown by their bold stance and strong flight.
