ABOUT THE GEMSTONE
Tanzanite is among the most fascinating of the modern gemstone discoveries. Tanzanite was discovered in the Merelani Hills (at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro in northern Tanzania) in 1967, and this remains the only place in the world this unique gemstone is found.
The tanzanite familiar to most people are the deep purple and blue purple varieties, however there are a range of other hues. Many of these alternative (or "fancy") colors are quite rare and desirable among gemstone collectors. Pinks are among the most collectible of the fancy colors, and this purple pink hue is quite unusual and very attractive.
