Georgian Hardstone Cameo Ring
About the Item
A Georgian hardstone cameo ring, the oval-shaped layered agate cameo, measuring approximately 27 by 17mm, and depicting the finely carved profile of Greek god Zeus (Jupiter), rubover set within a rose gold mount with a ridged detail to the rim, to a tapered triple wire-type shank, circa 1780, the head measuring 3x1.9cm, finger size M, gross weight 6.5 grams.
This ring is in very good condition. Unmarked, tested as 14ct gold.
A gorgeous cameo ring made in the late eighteenth century. This piece features an incredibly detailed carved cameo of Zeus in profile. The carved cameo demonstrated exquisite skill and technique. The peach hued agate stone that this cameo has been carved into is complemented by the blushed rose gold mount and ring. This piece is one of many Georgian-era rings that come from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.
