About the Item
Period: late Georgian period, 1810.
Origin: United Kingdom.
Size: 9
Weight: 4.75 gr.
This ring is a late English Georgian mourning band, made of yellow gold and black enamel, to commemorate M. MILNER who died on 22 December 1810, at the age of 67; all these details are given in golden letters around the black enamel band.
Georgian mourning rings were popular from the mid-1700s to the early 1800s. People wore these rings to remember those who had died and in order to express pain. These rings were often made of gold with black enamel. They often had symbols such as weeping willows, urns, and skulls. They also had words like "in memory of" or the initials or the name of the dead person, and the date or age of death.
