About the Item
A magnificent Scottish cairngorm gemstone is center stage in this exquisite, regal ring. This 8K gold ring came to us with a very damaged stone originally, so we worked with a local Amsterdam lapidary to give this jewel new life and save it from being recycled. Cairngorm quartz is citrine or smoky quartz that is mined from the Cairngorm Mountains in Scotland. Extremely popular in the Victorian era, especially large Cairngorm gems were prized and handed down through families as heirlooms. The popularity of the Scottish quartz led to the source being overmined, making genuine Cairngorm difficult to come by now.
This Cairngorm displays smoky wisps or ghosts within the stone, a lovely visual effect found in natural quartz gems. Measuring 17.7 mm x 13.9mm, this cabochon gemstone is simply fascinating.
The 8K yellow gold mounting holds the gem securely and this ring will fit a finger size 9.5 US.
