About the Item
Siv Lagerström, a collection of 6 acrylic rings, Made in Sweden in the 1960s/70s.
All are in good condition with no obvious defects. Various sizes and weights. Some are signed, others are not. Some have numerical labels.
Siv Lagerström studied at Konstfack’s metal department from 1963 to 1967. Through her friend Ingegerd Råman, who also studied at Konstfack, she connected with the magazine Idun, which took an interest in her acrylic plastic rings. These rings were sold via mail order through Idun and were briefly produced at Gravyrverken in Sollentuna in the early 1970s. They quickly gained international recognition.
Lagerström’s rings were perfectly in tune with the fashion trends of the time, drawing parallels to the avant-garde world of design. She could be seen as Sweden’s answer to Pierre Cardin, whose futuristic, vibrant fashion redefined silhouettes and embodied female liberation. Her jewellery introduced a new artistic language, breaking with traditional notions of what jewellery should be. The emphasis was on artistic expression rather than costly materials, reflecting a democratic approach to design.
Her work also resonates with the Op Art movement of the 1960s, featuring dynamic, psychedelic patterns that created a striking three-dimensional effect. A ring by Siv Lagerström is a true collector’s piece, and it is said that Brigitte Bardot herself owned one.
